High Winds, Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms Bear Down On Hudson Valley

The severe storm system could cause power outages, forecasters warn.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for the mid-Hudson Valley, part of the severe weather system bringing thunderstorms, high winds and lake effect snow across New York beginning Monday morning.

While forecasts are calling for rain and thunderstorms throughout much of the East Coast, the eastern portions of the Hudson Valley, Long Island and the Capital region have a high probability of seeing wind gusts over 50 mph.

A wind advisory goes into effect for eastern Dutchess County at 10 a.m. Wind advisories have been issued as well for Long Island and western Connecticut.

Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result, according to the National Weather Service. Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Isolated thunderstorms late Monday afternoon and early evening could produce localized stronger wind gusts.

Periods of moderate to briefly heavy rainfall could result in isolated minor urban and poor drainage flooding this afternoon and evening.

"Be careful traveling and be mindful of ponding on roadways and isolated areas of down trees, limbs and power lines," said the forecasters at Hudson Valley Weather.
