UPDATED: Japanese Students Meet Woodglen Students

Students from Bunri Elementary School in Japan visited third grade classes at Woodglen Elementary School on Wednesday.  The students sang songs to each other and participated in games and snacks brought from Japan. Origami was popular with all the students who folded paper to create samurai hats, cranes and dogs.

The students also tried calligraphy, chopsticks and card games and Kamishibai, which is showing picture cards to tell a story. They also played Fukuwarai, which is pin the tail on the donkey, and Otedama, a beanbag game.

The visiting group included 65 sixth grade students and 10 teachers and chaperones.  Several of the students in Clarkstown North High School’s Japanese program, who have been teaching Japanese language and culture to Woodglen students, joined the cultural exchange and acted as interpreters.
