To the Editor:

I was disgusted and angered to learn of the anti-Semitic graffiti and vandalism of the playground at the North Rockland School District offices in Garnerville. To have this act committed anywhere is awful but to have it happen at a place where children and families go to play is truly despicable. Any type of hate has no place in our county, and those who engage in this criminal activity should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

I urge everyone to use this incident as a learning opportunity and as a chance to speak to our children about the horrors of anti-Semitism and the holocaust so that no one can claim ignorance on these issues. We have an excellent local resource in the Holocaust Museum and Center for Tolerance and Education. While the Museum is currently closed to in-person visits due to COVID there are a wealth of resources available on their website: https://holocauststudies.org/

We must all roundly and universally condemn hatred or intolerance whenever and wherever they rear their ugly heads to ensure that Rockland County will remain a welcoming home to all our residents.
