Nanuet, N.Y. (May 6th, 2019) – Mark Zaino has never been one to enjoy exercise and sports growing up. "I always shied away from it, and never felt like I was particularly good at sports, and definitely wasn't. I am not that very coordinated for most. I wasn't always heavy or stocky, but it wasn't until high school did I develop a hearty appetite. Growing up in an Italian and Puerto Rican household, starches are a part of your everyday meals. That did not help me, nor the portions I fixed myself. When I started going for my Masters Degree after receiving my Bachelors degree, I realized I was a bit on the stocky/heavy side. I would always try to curb my meals with salad lunches, but never really put much effort into exercising. I knew my eating habits led to my weight gain, but didn't want to admit that the other half was to exercise. In the midst of my Uncle having suffered a heartache and not surviving it, I came across the Facebook ad for Peak physique advertising their new location in Suffern and the New Year New You resolution challenge, in 2018. Knowing full well my families health history of diabetes, overweight, cholesterol and blood pressure; I knew changes had to be made drastically. Now that I have been with Peak Physique for over a year, I am down 60 lbs and changing my fitness goals from dropping only body fat to dropping body fat and gaining muscle. I never felt more confident in myself and my physical appearance" said Mark Zaino.

1) Why did you choose Peak Physique Personal Training, Boot camp and Boxing?

I have tried working out with a few different gyms, mostly the chain ones. They weren't bad but I felt lonely. When I tried the first couple of classes at Peak, I was hooked. I felt a sense of comradery and community after the second workout. Everyone is just pleasant and wants to help you succeed.

2) How many Pounds did you lose so far? How long did it take?

When I started with the New Year's Challenge in January 2018, I lost about 25 pounds in 6 weeks. Now being regular Member since March 2018, 13 months later, I am down 60 pounds total. I may have gained muscle as of late, but I am still staying pretty slim, trying to also reduce the last of my belly fat.

3) How did Peak Physique help you meet your weight Loss goals?

The combination of the classes and the nutrition plan they have, including the combination of the Herbalife products they prefer to endorse, all worked together to help me meet my weight loss goals.

4) How often did you work out at Peak Physique?

I like to work out 4 days a week, usually focusing on the boot camp classes. But once in a while, I will do 5 days a week going to the boxing classes on Wednesday morning.

5 ) What is your Favorite form of exercise to do and why?

I have found that I like doing the Chest presses and lunges. A couple of people notice I have a good form with the lunges.

6) Have you had to deal with Injuries along the way?

My shoulders are a little bit of sore spot, but I know it's because I am challenging myself weight wise. They only act up in the middle or towards the end of a workout. The only time I may have actually injured myself was when I pulled my calf muscle. I had to rest for a whole week before I felt confident to work out again.

7) What did you change in your diet?

I have to laugh at this one, what didn't I change! I eat a lot less starches, especially in the form of breads and baked goods. When I visit my extended families, I have learned to take just one scoop, at least a 1 cup serving of pasta or rice and beans (depending who I visit). I have switched to making sure I have high protein snacks.

8) How did you manage to integrate this healthy life style into your life?

It was a little tricky, but managed to work things out very well. I'll prepare my meals for the day during the previous night. If I forget to make something for lunch, I can easily go to place near my job and get delicious salads.

9) What is the Biggest Struggle: Food, Exercise or Temptation?

My hardest struggle is definitely the temptations for sweets. I have a horrible sweet tooth… it also doesn't help that I love to bake for coworkers, friends and family.

10) What motivates you to continue with this life style?

I never want to go back to that heavy person I was. That and the workouts have become my best addiction!

11) What are your goals for the future?

I definitely plan on building more muscle. I am also planning my wedding, and it would be great if I could have a six pack in time for the wedding day! That would just be a great big perk.

12) What is your best piece of advice for those just starting their weight loss journey?
The struggle is real! With a clear mind and focus on the yes foods, everything will fall into place. The biggest challenge is the diet.
