“I really appreciate the acknowledgement and the honor,” Hofstein said. “But truly, it has been my honor to serve the youth of our community. As I have always said, and will continue to say, it is all about the children."
Hofstein has done it all for the NCLL – coach, manager, board president, said current Board President Michael Cohen.

“Lon’s valuable contributions can’t be overstated,” Cohen said. “He cared about all of the children over his many years of involvement, even continuing his participation after his own children had aged out of play.”
Hofstein made sure all children who wanted to be involved were and that teamwork and the overall experience of playing with their peers was emphasized, Cohen said.
“Lon’s message, that ‘It is all about the children,’ continues to inspire all of us involved in New City Little League,” Cohen said.
Hofstein served as board president for 12 years, a tenure that saw the installation of state-of-the-art lighting, batting cages and bathrooms at Strawtown Fields, and refurbished scoreboards and the installation of netting on three fields at Zukor Park.

In 1998, he coached the 11-12-year-olds’ baseball All Stars to the State’s Final Four, out of 2,000 teams in New York.
During his time as board president in 2011, the 11-12-year-olds’ Girls Team went to the International Little League World Series representing the East Coast of the U.S.
While board president in 2014, the 9-10-year-old Girls’ softball All Stars were the Eastern When Hofstein first got involved, more than 1,200 children played in the League. These days, the League still has more than 50 baseball and softball teams.
