Obituary: Nehemias "Nemo" Nieves

Mr. Nieves, 70, was an active member of The Risen King Church in New City.

Nehemias Nieves "Nemo" age 70, passed away April 14, 2019 after a heroic three year battle with brain cancer. Nehemias was born in the Bronx, New York, April 11, 1949. He is survived by his loving wife of forty two years, Drusila Figueroa Nieves, who was his soul mate. Also, his devoted children Nehemias Nieves II and wife Holly and daughter Evelisse Nieves Caniglia and husband Nicholas, and his cherished five grandchildren; Gabriel, Leah, Jonathan, Lucas and Ella. Nehemias is also survived by his mother in law Theodora Figueroa. Nehemias is one of eight children, survived by five sisters; Rosa, Ruthy, Naomi, Lidyia and Rachael.

Visitation will be held on Thursday April 18, 2019 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the George M. Holt Funeral Home, 50 New Main Street, Haverstraw, NY. Funeral Services will be held on Friday April 19, 2019 at 10 AM at the Risen King Alliance Church, 190 New Hempstead Road, New City, NY. Nehemias will be laid to rest at Hagaman Mills Cemetery, Hagaman, NY.

Family and friends were Nemo's love and joy. He loved to bowl, go camping and was a true craftsman by nature. During his career as an accountant, he held numerous executive positions advancing to senior management roles. Some of his favorite pastimes were watching westerns and black and white classic movies. He was a fervent servant of the Lord and extremely active in the church. Nemo will be remembered for his devotion and love of family, witty sense of humor, gentle spirit and dedication to excellence in all he did. He had a generous heart, always volunteering to help those in need. Most of all he loved the Lord.
