Officials Examine Deteriorating Rockland Lake Golf Course

Ken Zebrowski brought the State Parks Commissioner and PIP Superintendent to see first-hand the worsening conditions of the course.

CLARKSTOWN, NY — Assemblyman Kenneth Zebrowski brought the state parks commissioner and the superintendent of the Palisades Interstate Parkway Commission to Rockland Lake State Park Thursday to see the deteriorating condition of the golf course.

For close to two decades their irrigation system has been broken resulting in poor grass conditions and certain cart paths that are almost unridable, made up of rocks and potholes. Over the years, the course has suffered from declining attendance due to the deteriorating conditions, he said in a press release.

Zebrowski was joined by Parks Commissioner Rose Harvey and Palisades Interstate Parkway Commission Superintendent Jim Hall to the park for a firsthand look at the situation.

“Rockland Lake Golf Course truly is a diamond in the rough. The hardworking staff do the best they can with what they are given, but it just simply isn’t enough," Zebrowski said. "This is a State asset that deserves a fully functioning irrigation system and cart paths that don’t resemble country roads. It was a great opportunity to have Commissioner Harvey and Superintendent Hall come and see the conditions of the course for themselves. They were both very receptive to the issues and I am optimistic that we will see progress."

Zebrowski said he has heard from residents regarding the deteriorating conditions of the golf course for years.

He emphasizes the need to transform the course in order to make it an attraction to compliment local tourism. Surrounding communities benefit greatly from these types of public courses; restoring this asset will promote tourism and drive economic growth.

Zebrowski said the parks commissioner assured him that she will raise the alarm and advocate for efforts to improve the course.

“The Commission is pleased that Assemblyman Zebrowski visited Rockland Lake Golf Course and is actively supportive of efforts to provide state investments and improvements to restore the course,” added Palisades Interstate Parkway Commission Superintendent Jim Hall.
