The Rockland County Legislature passed an amended county budget for 2014 that calls for a 9.9 percent tax increase Thursday.
The budget passed by an 11 to 6 margin.
They were able to approve a budget with such a large increase because they also voted to override the state mandated property tax cap. County Executive Elect Ed Day, currently still a member of the legislature, cast what he described as a symbolic no vote due to the size of the tax increase.Â
