Snowstorm Sunday: Hazardous Outlook Issued For The Hudson Valley

The storm is expected to form in the Midwest on Saturday and dump snow as it moves east, maybe becoming a full-fledged nor'easter.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Forecasters are warning about a winter storm that could bring 6 inches of snow or more to the region late Sunday night.

Additionally, strong northeast winds, coastal flooding, and beach erosion will be possible, the National Weather Service said, issuing a hazardous weather outlook.

The NWS meteorologists did hedge their bets: "At this time, there remains a fair amount of uncertainty with the low track and timing to be specific with details."

The storm is expected to form in the Midwest on Saturday and dump snow as it moves east, and could become a full-fledged nor'easter near the Atlantic coast, AccuWeather predicted.

"There is the likelihood for the storm to get a strong 'second wind' as it swings through the Northeast with a great potential for heavy snow when compared to the storm that hit on Tuesday," said Alex Sosnowski, AccuWeather senior meteorologist.

However, this far out there's a lot of uncertainty, including whether milder air high in the atmosphere could bring instead a wintry mix of sleet and rain, or that dry air could sweep north and shut it all down. The Arctic air now flowing into the region could also play a part.

The intense cold descending Thursday night will keep things 20 degrees below normal through the weekend along with gusty winds making us feel like it's way below zero, said the folks at Hudson Valley Weather.
