State Sends List Of Week 8 Vaccine Allocation For Rockland

ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — New York health officials have begun sending out weekly information to the counties about doses of coronavirus vaccine, and Rockland's allocation this week includes eight retail outlets that will vaccinate residents who are 65 and older.

Hospitals are charged with vaccinating healthcare workers. County health departments are responsible for vaccinating essential workers. Retail providers are the ones where senior citizens can get vaccinations.

The "retail" sites schedule their own appointments, so people need to contact them directly.

The state also has mass vaccination sites where anyone can get a vaccine.

The state has a website for people to determine if they are eligible for the vaccine and download a form that must be presented.

The problem is shortage of the coronavirus vaccines nationwide. The federal's lack of supply severely limits state health officials' ability to get New Yorkers vaccinated, as New York state is only being sent about 300,000 doses a week.

There are currently more than 7 million people eligible to receive the vaccine, a process that will take months based on current allocations, state officials have said.
