The coronavirus is making this a unique Halloween, so the Clarkstown Community UNICEF Drive is making it possible for children to 'Trick or Treat for UNICEF' in a whole new way.

For the first time, students in the Clarkstown School District — or anyone who’d like to participate — will be able to take part in the iconic, American tradition virtually, from the safety of their own home.

"It’s great to know we can continue the tradition we brought back to the community 26 years ago in a safe and socially-distanced way," said Clarkstown Community UNICEF Drive founder Vicki Landman-Hopman.

This year, each of the nine schools in the district will have their own Virtual Collection Box with a customized link and visual QR code, listed below.

"All you have to do is click or share the link or code with friends and family to digitally ‘Trick or Treat for UNICEF.’ All donations will be collected online. It’s that simple and safe,” Landman-Hopman said.

Other members of the community who’d like to take part can also make a 100 percent tax deductible contribution to the general Virtual Collection Box.

Keeping children safe and healthy has always been at the core of UNICEF’s mission. Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF’s virtual offering enables children to safely learn the importance of giving back, global citizenship, and continues to empower them to have a positive impact on less fortunate children around the world.

With the help of matching donors, the Clarkstown Community UNICEF Drive has raised more than $200,000 for UNICEF since 1994.

"We’re so pleased UNICEF has made this resource available to us," said Landman-Hopman.
