The longtime educator, town councilwoman and police commissioner was 84.

Fran Hunter, longtime public servant, died Aug. 19, 2016. She was 84.

Hunter enjoyed a long career as a teacher, retiring as principal of Eldorado in the East Ramapo School District. She was elected to the Ramapo Town Board several times, serving from 1988 to 2011. She continued to serve the community as a member of the town police commission.

“Fran Hunter always put the interests of her community first and was always willing to go the extra mile to help anyone in need," said Rockland County Legislator Aron B. Wieder. "This was evident during her years as a teacher and as principal of Eldorado Elementary School. Fran Hunter had an ability to bridge the gaps between people and truly served as a role model for us all. I will miss her expertise, her advice and her friendship greatly.”
