3 Minutes on a Park Bench with Doug Cabral from International Financial Group

We spoke to Doug Cabral to find out how he keeps a competitive edge in the insurance/financial services industry.

Patch partner Doug Cabral of International Financial Group (IFG) tells us what sets one funding group apart from another and he told us when he first started reading the Wall Street Journal.

Patch: How did you first get started working in the insurance/financial services industry?

Doug Cabral: I have always been fascinated with the finance industry. I watched my dad read the Wall Street Journal as a kid and I’d take his copy and walk around, try to read it. As a young adult, I began my career starting an insurance brokerage firm. I sold that firm after 10 years and took all my knowledge and created the IFG Platform.

Patch: How do you keep your competitive edge in the insurance/financial services industry?

Doug Cabral: At IFG, we understand risk management, and we educate our clients on ways to mitigate exposures. IFG believes in the “belt and suspenders” approach. We meet with our clients face to face, we take the time to listen, we pride ourselves on being a boutique firm. Our approach in the financial sector is the same, one client at a time. We provide sound advice and solutions.

Patch: What sets one funding group apart from another? And how are you unique?

Doug Cabral: IFG serves as an intermediary and a private lender. I have a network of private family offices, local private lenders. You do not need to work in Manhattan to do big deals, you just need a great network, and hire great people to get them done.

Patch: What’s your advice to someone who’s looking to mitigate risk in their business right now?

Doug Cabral: This question is like asking a doctor how to lose weight. He will give you broad advice and you most likely won’t listen. However, if you hire a personal trainer that makes you accountable for your actions, works with you on a daily basis and grooms you for success, you will not only learn how to eat properly and stay fit but you will see what is not good for you. This is why I suggest scheduling an appointment with a financial advisor who can teach and groom you, helping you become aware of hazards you may not even know exist.

Patch: How can readers contact you to learn more about the IFG?
