PECONIC, NY — It's time to watch dogs fly: The 4th Annual North Fork Dog Dock Diving Event is slated for this weekend at the Greenport Harbor Brewery in Peconic.

The festivities will take place over three days from Friday through Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the brewery, located at 42155 Main Road in Peconic.

"This family fun event includes hundreds of dogs – both professional and amateur — competing in jumping for height or distance from a dock into water. It’s a splash!"

The event will be co-hosted by Harbor Pet of Greenport Village, a longtime collaborator, who for several years has used the spent grain from the brewery for their “Life is Grruff” line of dog treats.

Back in 2017, Harbor Pet’s Kim Loper proposed that Greenport Harbor Brewing Company use their grounds to host a dog festival.

“Dock diving is big in my industry and it was the coming together of two Greenport businesses. Who doesn’t like dogs, beer, and being outside?” Loper said.

DockDogs® first emerged in 2000 to create a nationally recognized competitive sport based on rules and precedents in track and field competitions. The open competitions allow “anyone with a dog and toy” to participate in the sport, organizers said.

"Each day of the Greenport Harbor Brewery event, they’ll be lots and lots of dogs competing —both professional and amateur — jumping for height or distance," Greenport Harbor Brewery co-owner Rich Vandenburgh said.

“We’ve had so many people asking whether we were going to do it this year and we really wanted to make it happen. Our team has been working hard to make sure this family fun and dog-friendly event provides a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all attendees," Betsy Liegey, marketing director for Greenport Harbor Brewery said.

No tickets will be sold at the door; tickets cost $10 and can be purchased online only here through Thursday; children under five are free. All friendly and on-leash dogs are welcome.

Those competing are able to purchase four friends and family tickets per day through the portal here. To register a dog, click here.
