Bay Constables Rescue 2; Police Charge Man With DWI

An overturned boat leaves 2 stranded; failure to keep to lane leads to arrest for drunk driving

On August 10, the Town of Southampton Bay Constables’ office responded to a request over VHS channel 16 for help with a capsized vessel in the vicinity of Ponquogue Bridge.

At approximately 1:55 p.m., Bay Constable McManus arrived on the scene to find a 12-foot fiberglass Gamefisher with two passengers in the water. They were rescued with the assistance of a U.S. Coast Guard vessel from the Shinnecock station and taken back to the station where they were treated for minor injures and released.

The Town of Southampton Police arrested a Southampton man for driving drunk.

On August 10, at approximately 8:15 in the evening, Marc A. Marano, 49, of Southampton, was observed by the Southampton Town Police having difficulty maintaining his lane while driving on Tuckahoe Lane in the Hamlet of Southampton. A subsequent investigation revealed him to be drunk. Marano refused to take a breathalyzer test. He was transported to police headquarters, processed and held for morning arraignment.
