NORTH FORK, NY — Bunny rabbits have been found in different locations around Southold recently — and animal welfare advocates are worried they may have been dumped after the novelty of Easter has worn off.

According to Gabrielle Stroup of the North Fork Animal Welfare League, Southold Town Police found five rabbits on Alvahs Lane, just north of Country Road 48, in Cutchogue Sunday; another was just brought in from Depot Lane, she said.

Another bunny was found by a good Samaritan on Soundview Avenue in Southold, Stroup said.

"We're not sure what's going on. It would appear that someone dumped some rabbits at some point and maybe they've reproduced since then," Stroup said. "We would love to know if anyone has any information."

Anyone missing a rabbit, or with information, is asked to call the NFAWL at 631-765-1811.
