MATTITUCK, NY — A Mattituck family got their happy ending when their missing cat found his way home in time for Mother's Day.

According to Lindsay Trant, Chico, a large, solid-gray male cat, about 7 years old, went missing Friday night from Gabriella Court. Chico, who is microchipped, is an indoor cat and not accustomed to the outdoors, she said. He ran out the door when the dogs were being let out, Trant said.

Her whole family, including her three children, 15, 13, and 7, were devastated, Trant said — especially her oldest daughter. "He is very important to our family," she said. "He's my oldest daughter’s best friend."
