Community Fundraising To Keep Friend's Dream Alive

Friends are coming together to help keep Bill Rempe's legacy alive, of providing childcare services across the community.

GREENPORT, NY — Friends and family are joining together to honor Bill Rempe and keep his dream alive.

According to a GoFundMe, "Bill for BASREP," created by Meggan Conroy, the goal is to raise funds in "Bill’s honor, for his wife Jodi to allow BASREP to continue running in his legacy."

William John Rempe, 55, of East Hampton, died on Feb. 14 at Hartford Hospital.

BASREP Inc., the page said, is a non-profit, 501 c3 company that provides quality childcare services to school-aged children. Started in 1992, the program has served thousands of local families in the community, the page said.

"Jodi ,the program director, has spent the last 26 years dedicated to the success of the program. In recent years the program has faced some difficult financial hardships and Jodi has worked tirelessly to keep the organization running smoothly. It was Bill’s wish to see the BASREP program overcome its financial strains and flourish once again," the page said.

According to his obituary on the GoFundMe page, he was born Nov. 30, 1962 in Greenport, the was the son of Stacia (Januick) Rempe and the late John E. Rempe.

"Bill grew up on Long Island and was a graduate of Greenport High School and then Florida Institute of Technology where he trained to become an airline pilot. Bill earned his pilot’s license in 1985 and first worked for East Hampton Air in Long Island, then Business Express where he became captain," the page said.

"Bill then worked for Northwest Airline which later became Delta Airlines. At the time of Bill’s passing he was a 1st officer for Delta Airlines. Bill loved music and guitar playing, Cuban cigars, traveling the world, entertaining family and friends and sharing his chicken wings. Bill was always the life of the party and would light up a room," the page said.

Bill is survived by his mother Stacia Rempe of Greenport L.I., his wife Jodi Rempe of East Hampton, his two sons John Rempe of Los Angeles, Luke Rempe of East Hampton, a sister Lori Dibble and fiancé Michael Crosby of NY, his niece and goddaughter Michele Dell Croce (John), sisters-in-law Geri Lynne Carnelli (Raymond), Gina Scelza, GiGi Fox (Bill), Jacki Baranowski (Peter), nieces and nephews Jeremiah (Dana), Jordan Marie, Jacob, Blaire, Hailey, and great nephew Austin. He was predeceased by his father John and his infant son Scott, the page reads

"Rempe 55 flying west, final destination, I love you," the page said.
