Dog Found Tied To A Mile Marker On North Fork
The older dog was found tied to a mile marker in Greenport with two punctures. But her story may have a happy ending. Here's why.

GREENPORT, NY — A dog was found Monday tied to a mile marker in Greenport, where she is believed to have been abandoned and left overnight.
According to Gabrielle Stroup of the North Fork Animal Welfare League, the senior chihuahua was brought into the Peconic shelter by a Southold police officer Monday at 5:40 a.m. after being found tied to the mile marker on Chapel Lane.
Southold Town Police Chief Martin Flatley said a police officer found the small Chihuahua tied to a red utility marker, with a red collar and red leash; however, no tags were located.

"The dog appeared to have wounds on its body and head," he said.
"It seems like the dog was left there," Stroup said. While it was not immediately clear how long she'd been tied up to the post, Stroup said the dog had two punctures when found; it was unclear how she sustained the injuries.

She's been doing a lot of sleeping; tomorrow, she will get a bath, Stroup said.
But despite her dire circumstances when found, there might be a happy ending for the pup, Stroup said: "The officer has expressed interest in adopting her — but if he doesn’t, we have another family who wants her."
