SOUTHOLD, NY — Friday morning's heavy thunderstorm left the North Fork drenched in the deluge — with many areas seeing flash flooding.

According to the National Weather Service office in Upton, totals of 2.5 to 3.5 inches were reported on the East End, with some cars in western Suffolk reportedly caught in waters far deeper, even up to their hoods.

One man was rescued from his vehicle by Southold Town Highway Superintendent Vincent Orlando. To read that compelling story, click here.

David Stark, meteorologist, said heavy rain is expected to continue Friday. "We're in a bit of a lull now but this evening we could see locally heavy rain showers or thunderstorms. Another round is coming, with heavy rainfall possible between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.," he said.

On the North Fork, areas where heavy flooding was reported included by the Soundview and in the Mattituck shopping plaza parking lot.
