How To Schedule A Coronavirus Test At Suffolk County Site Now

Suffolk County's first mobile test site for coronavirus is accepting appointments — but not everyone is eligible.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — With Suffolk County's first mobile testing site for the new coronavirus on the way, appointments are now available. The Suffolk County Department of Health is now allowing individuals to make appointments for the mobile site, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone said Tuesday.

Although the location of the mobile testing site is still being determined, that information is expected later this week, he said. Suffolk County residents who want to make an appointment can call now and be triaged by a nurse, he said. To make an appointment, call 1-888-364-3065.

Coronavirus has killed three and infected 84 in Suffolk County as of Tuesday morning, officials said.

Not everyone who calls to make an appointment at the mobile center will get tested, Bellone said. There are criteria and callers will be asked a series of questions by a nurse to determine if a test is appropriate.

A caller to that number Tuesday was asked whether or not they had a fever, if they had traveled overseas, and if they had underlying health issues. After basic information is gathered, it is sent to the Suffolk County Department of Health to determine if a person can get tested.

After an individual is tested, it can take two to three days or longer for results, Bellone said. He added it is not yet clear how many tests will be done daily.
