On Saturday, the Silas Marder Gallery in Bridgehampton, will host a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. for “Jason Middlebrook: Every Tree is a Map,” an exhibition of “plank” paintings made of rough-hewn slices of hardwoods adorned with brightly colored patterns that evoke natural growth rings. The show will remain on view in the gallery through September 14.
Jason Middlebrook received his MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute after studying fine arts at University of California at Santa Cruz. He currently lives and works in Hudson, New York. He has shown his work extensively, including international shows in Milan, Italy and Stockholm, Sweden. In New York City his work has been the subject of two solo shows at the Sara Meltzer Gallery and featured in “A Break from Content” at DODGEgallery, also in New York City.

The Silas Marder Gallery is housed in a giant barn on the grounds of Marder’s off Snake Hollow Road. The space is beautifully landscaped in a non-traditional way featuring boulders and bales of hay. The grounds are also the location of summer movie screenings shown against a haywall. “Creature from the Black Lagoon” will be shown on August 22, and “Serpico” will be shown on August 29. Screenings are free and begin when the sun goes down, but not before 9 p.m., bring some refreshments and a blanket and enjoy watching a film under the stars.
