Man Charged In 8 Cases, Including Assaulting Officer: Police
The Greenport man, 21, faces charges in eight different cases, including five burglaries of Greenport businesses, police say.

GREENPORT, NY — A 21-year old Greenport man was arrested Wednesday and charged in relation to eight cases, including assaulting a police officer, police said.
According to Southold Town Police, Jesus Mendoza of Greenport was arrested at 10:18 a.m. in Greenport Village in connection with the eight different cases that were being investigated over the span of the past several months.
Mendoza was found to be involved in five separate burglaries of Greenport businesses where he reportedly broke in and stole numerous items ranging from electronics and clothing to food, police said.

Mendoza was also charged with assault on a police officer after an officer sustained an injury to his hand while Mendoza was actively resisting arrest on a previous night, on other unrelated charges, police said.
In addition, Mendoza was also charged with two counts of petty larceny after he was seen on surveillance cameras shoplifting from two local businesses; and criminal trespass after he entered one store after being advised that he was no longer allowed inside, police said.

He faces charges including burglary, assault on a police officer, criminal mischief, and criminal trespass, police said. Mendoza was transported to police headquarters, processed, and held for morning arraignment, authorities said.
