North Fork Man Charged With DWI Twice In One Week

GREENPORT, NY — A Greenport man was arrested Wednesday and charged with driving while intoxicated for the second in a week, police said.

David Amaya, 39, was arrested Friday at 4:59 a.m. on Main Street in Greenport after he was stopped for driving without working headlights and officers determined he was intoxicated, police said.

On Wednesday at 10:37 a.m., Amaya was arrested again on Main Street in Greenport. Police said he was driving a 2006 Kia sedan north on Main Street when officers stopped him near Bridge Street because his license was suspended. Police said he was intoxicated and taken to Southold police headquarters, where he was held in custody pending an arraignment.

Amaya on Wednesday was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving without a license, aggravated unlicensed operation and an equipment violation for broken glass. On Friday, he was charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated DWI, aggravated unlicensed operation, and driving without a license and headlights.
