Man Overboard Rescued On Long Island Sound
His sailboat overturned and he was unable to swim fast enough to catch up to the vessel, police say. Rescue took place by water, sky, land.

SOUTHOLD, NY — A man overboard was rescued from the Long Island Sound Friday, police said.
According to Southold Town Police, the incident took place off Kenney's Beach at 6:15 p.m. when Peter Stanton, 61, of Woodbridge, VA, was on a sailboat that overturned.
Stanton was then unable to swim fast enough to catch up to the sailboat and became separated from the vessel, police said.

Southold Town bay constables John Kirincic and Kris Dimon responded by boat, Suffolk County Police aviation by helicopter, the Southold Fire Department by boat, and Police Officers James Crosser and Richard Jernick, by land. Officer Crosser was able to see Stanton and guided the bay constables to him, police said.
Stanton was brought aboard the Southold Police Department's vessel then later transferred to the Southold Fire Department's inflatable boat and brought ashore at McCabe's Beach, police said. Stanton was checked at the scene by EMS and refused any further medical care, police said.
