Man Punches Police Officer In The Head: Authorities
The officer was responding to a call regarding a domestic dispute, police say.

GREENPORT, NY — A man was arrested after he punched a police officer in the head in Greenport, police said.
According to Southold Town Police, the incident took place on Monday at 11:01 p.m. on Bay Avenue. Thomas Hilton, 54, of Greenport, was arrested and charged with second-degree harassment/physical contact; second-degree obstruction of governmental administration; and resisting arrest, police said.
Officers responded to a report of a domestic dispute where a female called 911 requesting assistance with her boyfriend, police said.

While officers were at the scene the caller became uncooperative with the officers and refused to allow them to speak with the other person involved in the altercation, police said.
While the officers were attempting to speak with her, Hilton came down the stairs to confront the officers and punched one in the side of the head with a closed fist, police said.

Hilton was taken into custody, transported to police headquarters, processed, and arraigned virtually at Southold Justice Court; he was released on his own recognizance and given a future court date, police said.
The officer was transported to Eastern Long Island Hospital where he was treated and released, police said.
