Man Stranded On Sandbar Rescued In Orient

He became stranded on a rock when the tide came in, police say.

ORIENT POINT, NY — A man stranded when the tide came in while he was fishing on Orient Point was rescued Thursday morning, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, the incident took place at 8:10 a.m. when Casey Kellise, 28, of Ridge, who was fishing on the sandbar at Orient Point, became stranded on a rock and was unable to walk back in due to the swift current.

Southold Town Police bay constables along with officers, responded by boat and by land; the Orient Fire Department also responded by boat, police said. An officer was able to walk out to Kellise to check on his condition and maintained contact with him until the Orient Fire Department rescue vessel could reach them and bring them onto shore, police said.

Kellise was not hurt, police said.
