North Fork Library Warns About Fine Scam
"Don't do it!" Fake emails are telling library patrons they owe fines on overdue books, but it's a scam, library staffers say.

GREENPORT, NY — Library patrons from Greenport are being targeted in an email scam, officials from the Floyd Memorial Library said.
According to a post on the Floyd Memorial Library Facebook page, there is a "wicked scam out there", with someone sending emails, supposedly from the Greenport Public Library.
There is no Greenport Public Library; the library's name is Floyd Memorial Library, the post reminded.

The emails tell people that they owe overdue fines. "Not true — we haven't been collecting overdue fines here for over five years. They direct you to use a link to pay the fines."
The fines can be as high as $97.13 for 84 days late, the post said.

"Don't do it!" the post said.
People who receive emails are asked to call Southold Town Police at 631-765-2715 and report them.
