Pair Caught With Counterfeit $100 Bills: Cops

They reportedly used the counterfeit cash on the East End, police said.

SOUTHOLD, NY — Two people from the Bronx were caught with counterfeit $100 bills in Southold, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, on April 27 at 5:04 p.m., Alahnys De La Cruz, 18, and Shayla Perez, 21, were arrested on Route 25 in Southold and charged with first degree possession of a forged instrument as well as unlawful possession of marijuana.

Southold Police received a report of two people using counterfeit money; the duo was reportedly in a black Audi heading east on New York State Route 25 toward Southold, authorities said.

A vehicle matching the description given was located by police in the area of Feather Hill shopping plaza, police said. The vehicle was stopped and an investigation revealed that Perez and De La Cruz were in possession of counterfeit $100 bills, police said.

Both were placed under arrest and transported back to Southold Town Police headquarters for processing and held pending arraignment, police said.
