National Weather Service issues watch for Thursday.

A severe thunderstorm watch is now in effect for all of Long Island and New York City until 7 p.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible through the evening, says the NWS, which pegged the chance for precipitation the rest of the day at 30 percent.

The temperature Thursday will likely reach the mid-70s and Friday should be sunny with a high near 75.

A severe thunderstorm watch means that the potential exists for the development of thunderstorms which may produce large hail or damaging winds. When a watch is issued, you should go about your normal activities, but keep an eye to the sky and an ear to local media for further updates and possible warnings, the NWS says.
