CUTCHOGUE, NY — The North Fork location of Simply Sublime, an organic cafe and market that serves a wide array of juices and healthy options with an eye toward "energy and awareness" is closing due to the coronavirus.

Simply Sublime will remain open in East Hampton seven days a week.

According to Juliette Logie, a partner along with Alison Burke and Kristy Gilmore in the Simply Sublime location on Main Road in Cutchogue, the spot will shutter by the end of October.

"We are closing because of the pandemic," Logie told Patch.

The decision was not an easy one to make, she said.

"We have enjoyed our time there and have been a fruitful business from the day we opened our doors in 2018," Logie said. "It was quite remarkable at how well we were received. We had closed for a couple months last January with the intent of reopening for St. Patrick's Day. Then, you know, COVID reared its ugly head."

Although the business reopened in late June after the coronavirus lockdown, it was difficult to find staff in East Hampton to cover for Logie and Gilmore when they headed to the North Fork location.

"People were either getting $600 extra on unemployment or they were being cautious about going back to work with COVID," she said. And, she added, "Kristy and I also weren't comfortable with commuting as often — COVID even made a money exchange on the ferries seem irresponsible if it wasn't an absolute necessity — so we have continued to focus on the East Hampton location and keeping our customers served as safely as possible."

The logistics, Logie said, were daunting and made even more so by the pandemic. "It's difficult to run a business when you're only there a couple days a week. We have loved being on the North Fork for the community and overall loveliness of the people. We love our staff and they are totally competent, yet at this time we are looking for opportunities closer to home."

The East Hampton spot, located at 85 Springs Fireplace Road, will remain open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For additional information on that location, click here for menu offerings, including a full array of organic juices, or call 631-604-1566.
