NORTH FORK, NY — A number of crashes were reported on the North Fork during Monday's blizzard — and Southold Town Supervisor Scott Russell urged residents to stay home and off the roads.

On Monday afternoon, Russell said while there were no issues with outages or downed wires, the snow was heavy and the wind was strong.

"That can be a bad combination as we move through the storm, making tree limbs susceptible to falling," he said.

The crashes, due to the poor condition on the roads, included several with injuries, Russell said. "Crews are out working hard to maintain them, but people should not be out driving," he said. "It interferes with their work and puts emergency responders' safety at risk, as well as their own."
