BREAKING: Congratulations, Maddy Tabor! You've made the community so proud!

GREENPORT, NY — Madison Tabor, 17, made history Tuesday night as she became the first girl ever to score 1,000 points in her basketball varsity career at Greenport High School.
At Tuesday's Greenport/Southold girls varsity basketball game against the Smithtown Christian School, an eager crowd cheered on their hometown star as she earned the honor.
After the game, Maddy, a senior who lives in Orient, shared her jubilation with Patch, as she officially became a member of the 1,000 Point Club.

"It is an amazing feeling honestly to be able to do something so monumental. This is something I will remember for the rest of my life. I wouldn't of been able to do it without my coaches and all my teammates. So I would like to thank them," she said.
Her favorite part of basketball, Maddy added, is playing defense.

Looking ahead, Maddy said she probably won't be playing basketball in college. She's almost positive she's chosen SUNY Cortland and her goal is to study sports medicine.
The community carried signs and posted on social media as Maddy got closer to achieving her goal.
"I have known Maddy since she was born," said Greenport resident and school bus driver Chatty Allen. "She is an amazing young lady. I have been watching her play sports at Greenport since she was in the seventh grade. I knew way back then that she would accomplish great things — and she has."
She added, "Maddy did what no other Greenport girls basketball player has done — score 1,000 points! I told Maddy before tonight's game that she was going to leave a legacy as a Greenport High School alumni and after tonight, will become part of the Porter history. She is also one of the sweetest, kindest person you'll ever meet."
