
FISHERS ISLAND, NY – A tornado touched down on Fishers Island Monday morning, the National Weather Service has confirmed.
The Fishers Island Fire Department and the Suffolk County Office of Emergency Management reported numerous trees and power lines down across the island after a waterspout moved onshore and became a tornado shortly after 7:30 a.m.
The EF0 tornado, with winds of 65-85 mph, moved back offshore after causing minor damage. No injuries have been reported.

Small buildings were removed off their foundations on the island, the NWS says.
Fishers Island is located just a couple miles off the Connecticut coast, but it is considered part of the Town of Southold on Long Island. It is home to about 200 year-round residents.
