Trees Down; Tornado Warning Sends Residents To Basements: Photos
A tornado warning sent residents into their basements Tuesday but reports of a touchdown haven't yet been confirmed.
EAST END, NY — Winds of up to 78 mph ripped across the East End during Tropical Storm Isaias, tearing down trees, leaving almost 100,000 without power — and sending residents down into their basements as a tornado warning was issued on the North Fork and in Southampton.
Despite the warning, reports of a tornado touchdown on the North Fork have not been confirmed.
On the South Fork, the National Weather Service predicted ocean swells of up to 10 feet, officials said.

In Riverhead, the storm sent a tree crashing down onto a car belonging to Madison Messina on Roanoke Avenue, where it was parked while she was at work. It was Messina's first car, her mother Melissa said. "My daughter Madison's poor car. Thank God she was not in it," she wrote on Facebook.
There are now more than 95,000 PSEG Long Island customers without power. A 78 mph wind gust was recorded at Republic Airport in Farmingdale at 1:53 p.m.

Sustained winds of 45-55 mph with gusts of 60-70 mph will continue into the evening.
Long Island Rail Road service was suspended systemwide due to high winds and hazardous conditions, including fallen trees, downed utility poles and power outages, the railroad said on its website at 2:24 p.m.
