- Cross Sound Ferry {CSF} is given a sort-of-tribute "write" here. - I'm thrilled too to spotlight CSF Public Affairs Director STAN MICKUS. -
The Southampton Press dated March 5, 1992 talked about the Foxwood High Stakes Bingo and Casino that opened February 15 {1992} in the Mashantucket Pequot Reservation in Ledyard, Connecticut.
"'We've been inundated with calls,' said marketing director Stan Mickus for the Cross Sound Ferry, which is based in New London. 'It's the only gambling facility of its kind in New England.' The casino operators 'consider Long Island a major market for them. It's created an interest. No way around it.'...
... 'The Cross Sound Ferry,' Mr. Mickus said, is about to unleash an 'aggressive marketing campaign' that will promote Foxwood with other southeast Connecticut attractions like to Mystic Seaport and Mystic Aquarium. The ferry company was set to 'unveil a $40-round-trip fare for a vehicle and up to six passengers for same day or mid-week travel, a savings of more than 50 percent, Mr. Mickus said. A shuttle bus to carry non-driving passengers the 15 miles between New London and Ledyard {was to begin} in the spring or early summer.' ...
... But Mr. Minkus {stet} remains optimistic. 'Foxwood has bingo, roulette, craps, blackjack and poker and {was soon to} begin presenting big name entertainers, including country singer Kenny Rogers.'
'The Atlantic City casinos,' Mr. Minkus {stet} added, 'are surrounded by slums while Foxwood is set in a forest and is minutes away from Mystic Seaport and tourist attractions. This has brought the area together,' he said of the southeast Connecticut tourist industry. 'We are talking about the grand picture.'"

Ferry officials estimate about 1,000 pints per week of Greenport’s Harbor Ale will be served aboard ferry trips this summer (June through September) and the brewery’s other styles could be carried in the future.
Public affairs director Stan Mickus said that estimate is based on the volume of beer the ferry typically sells each summer season.
And it could be more considering this is such a superior product,' he said with a grin."
While I was on-staff for fifteen years at The Traveler-Watchman STAN MICKUS graciously placed Cross Sound Ferry weekly ads in our newspaper. I've been able to see Stan a couple of times since that newspaper closed and he maintains such a positive attitude. Here's to you STAN MICKUS.
