Woman Crashes Into Hampton Jitney Bus, Charged With DWI: Police

The crash took place in Peconic Monday night, police say.

PECONIC, NY — A woman who crashed into a Hampton Jitney bus Monday night on the North Fork was charged with driving while intoxicated, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, the crash took place at 9:08 p.m. on Route 25 in Peconic when Melanie Keller, 42, of Southold, who was driving east, left her lane of travel and hit the Hampton Jitney, which was heading west.

Keller was found to be intoxicated, arrested, and charged with aggravated DWI: per se, no prior; and driving without a license, police said.

She was transported to Eastern Long Island Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, then held overnight at Southold Town Police headquarters to await arraignment, police said.

The driver was the only person onboard the Hampton Jitney and he was not injured, police said.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene with damage, police said.
