More Than 6,000 Lose Power as Storms Strike Long Island
At least one home was struck by lightning Wednesday night.

More than 6,000 PSEG Long Island customers were without power Wednesday night after thunderstorms moved through the area.
Most of the outages were in Nassau County, particularly the Town of Oyster Bay, where 2,980 outages were reported as of 10:54 p.m., according to the PSEG outage map. By 7 a.m. Thursday, fewer than 800 outages remained.

There were numerous fires reported on the island Wednesday night. It's unclear how many were weather-related, but News 12 reported that lightning caused a fire at a Carle Place home.
A fallen tree and power lines also sparked a fire on Bevin Road in Asharoken.
