5 Ways You Can Stay Cool During The Heat Wave In Northport

NORTHPORT, NY — Temperatures are expected to rise to nearly 100 degrees this weekend—without factoring in humidity. Here are some ways Northport residents can keep cool during the heat wave throughout the Town of Huntington.

• Dix Hills Park Pool: The public pool closest to Northport is the Dix Hills Park Pool, which is nearly a 25 minute drive. There will be normal hours on Friday (12:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.) and extended hours on Saturday and Sunday (10 a.m. to 8 p.m.). The facility is 50-meters in length, equipped with a half-meter diving board, two 1-meter diving boards and a large deck area for sunning. The facility is also equipped with locker rooms, a playground area, kiddie pool and food concession. • Sgt. Paul Tuozzolo Memorial Spray Park: Located at Elwood Park on Cuba Hill Road, the spray park is about a 15 minute drive away from Northport. The facility has extended hours as well on Saturday and Sunday (9 a.m. to 8 p.m.), though has the normal 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. hours on Friday. • Crab Meadow Beach: A beach in Northport, located on Waterside Avenue. The beach is popular for swimming and includes a boardwalk, playground, walking paths and more.
• Asharoken Beach: One of Northport's beaches, located on Eaton's Neck Road. Per LongIsland.com, activities at this beach include kayaking, canoeing, motor boating and sailing. Though a dip in the water will likely be enough to satisfy anyone during the extreme heat.
• Town of Huntington Senior Beach House: Located at 239 Little Neck Road, Centerport, the Senior Beach House is the closest Town-listed cooling center to Northport. Friday and Saturday hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday hours are 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
