Armed Person Shot By State Police On Northern State Parkway: Cops
The driver pointed a rifle in the direction of New York State Police troopers before getting shot, police say.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — An armed person was hurt in a shooting Wednesday on the Northern State Parkway that involved state troopers, police said. State police were called around 2:20 p.m. for a report that someone with a weapon was driving a white Mercedes SUV on Meadowbrook Parkway, police said.
A caller reported seeing the same car on the Northern State Parkway near Exit 39, and that the driver had what looked to be an assault rifle, police said. The Mercedes sped by a trooper stationed at Exit 42 of the parkway around 3 p.m., police said.
The driver did not stop police gave chase. It wasn't long until the driver stopped in the road, exited the Mercedes and pointed a rifle at the troopers, police said. The driver was shot by the troopers and taken into custody, police said. The driver was then flown to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment. No troopers were hurt.

For most of Wednesday afternoon, all lanes of the Northern State Parkway were closed at the Sagtikos State Parkway between eastbound Exits 42N and 42S for NY 231 and westbound Exit 45 for Sunken Meadow Parkway. Traffic was diverted and drivers were asked to find other routes. The lanes have since re-opened.
State police is investigating and asking for anyone with information on the incident to call 631-756-3300.
