Bernie The Snowman Comes To Life As Long Island Snow Sculpture
A Northport resident sculpted a snow version of the meme of Sanders wearing mittens and brought it to the park "Weekend At Bernie's"-style.

NORTHPORT, NY — Northport Village Park is feeling the Bern. Well, the #FreezerBern, according to the man who sculpted a snow replica of Sen. Bernie Sanders wearing mittens at President Joe Biden's inauguration last month.
Brandon Myles Osman, 36, of Northport, began carving the snow version of the senator Saturday morning in his yard. Starting with a massive snowball, Osman shaved away until Snow Sanders took form. Five hours later, Osman's work was done.
Friends and neighbors took notice. Wanting to share his work with more people, Osman brought his sculpture to Northport Village Park.

"That’s when I had the crazy idea to transport the frozen sculpture (which probably weighed about 150lbs or more!) in the back of my Jetta to the town of Northport for all to appreciate (at least for that fleeting moment before it rained)," Osman told Patch via Facebook.

The 1989 comedy "Weekend at Bernie's" is what inspired Osman to put his Bernie Sanders sculpture in the back of his car for the ride to the park.

Osman has been sculpting elaborate snowmen since he moved back to Long Island from Queens roughly seven years ago. In his quest to build at least one a year, Osman aims to build snowpeople who he considers icons — mostly from the television or movie screens.
"I find that Image of Bernie in his mittens on Inauguration Day hilarious, it just seems to capture a mood of a generation," Osman said.
Osman added that he never intended his Bernie Sanders snowman to be a political statement.
