Copenhagen Bakery Turns 15

A look at what's happening today in Northport.

Good morning, Northport. Here's a look at what's happening today in town.

Copenhagen Bakery's 15th Anniversary
Copenhagen Bakery, a local favorite in the village will celebrate its 15th anniversary. Locals and customers are welcome to celebrate the milestone at the store from 4-8 p.m. today and enjoy coffee and cake samples. Fall has also brought fresh pecan, apple and pumpkin pies into the bakery. Yum!

At the Library: Art Gallery Exhibits
Browse the art galleries at the Northport and East Northport Public Libraries. At the Northport Gallery, visitors will see the Asian style wood carvings and nature scene by Cho, Hyon Hee. At the East Northport Gallery, see trash be turned into art at the "Garish Rubbish" exhibit by Mei Mei. The former corporate product designer, Mei-Mei “shops” for her raw materials in a variety of unusual places including parking lots, lost and founds, clearance bins, junk stores, garage sales, and her own backyard. She imaginatively recycles these found objects to make sock toys, bird houses and other creations.

Northport Harbor 'Mussels' Algae Blooms Away
Northport Harbor will gain some new residents soon - ribbed mussels. The Village government is working with the Cornell Co-operative Extension of Suffolk County and the County to bring ribbed mussels into the harbor in order to reduce the nitrogen in the local waterway. We'll have more on this story later today.
