East Northport Visitation Slated For Trooper Hit By Car In 2017
Visitation for Joseph Gallagher is slated for Wednesday in East Northport. The trooper was fatally injured in a crash in 2017, police say.
EAST NORTHPORT, NY — Services for New York State Police Trooper Joseph Gallagher were announced by police. Visitations were set up on Long Island and upstate New York.
Long Islanders can pay their respects to Gallagher from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Brueggemann Funeral Home, at 522 Larkfield Road, East Northport. Another day of visitation for Gallagher is scheduled for April 6 in Orchard Park. Gallagher's funeral is slated for April 7 at Our Lady of Victory National Shrine and Basilica in Buffalo.
Gallagher died Friday — more than three years after he was struck by a vehicle while on duty, police announced.

He is survived by his wife, two children, parents, sister and brothers.
Gallagher was helping a disabled motorist on the overpass from the westbound Long Island Expressway to southbound Sagtikos Parkway at the Commack/Brentwood border on Dec. 18, 2017, when Jesse Cohen, of West Islip, was texting while driving and hit Gallagher with his car, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino Jr. said in July 2020.

Gallagher suffered a traumatic brain injury and was severely disabled, the district attorney said. Gallagher had been a member of the state police since 2014, and he was previously assigned to Troop F and Troop T. He was last assigned to SP Brentwood.
