After a unique and challenging year which added daily on-site student temperature checks, social distancing, limited interactions between different class ‘cohorts’ and weekly COVID-19 tests to the usual curriculum, Harbor Country Day School’s Class of 2021 was rewarded with a picture-perfect day to celebrate their graduation on Friday, June 11.

Family members, friends and guests joined the graduates around the school’s ‘Commencement Circle’ for the in-person ceremony with others joining the celebration virtually via the event’s live stream. Led by Harbor’s Head of School, John Cissel, themes of the ceremony included those that were typical for commencements held on the tail-end of the Coronavirus Pandemic - resilience, strength, and flexibility. The pinnacle of the ceremony, however, was the delivery of the beloved traditional speeches given by each of the graduating 8th graders.

Here it is evident how uniquely prepared the graduates of Harbor Country Day School are for high school and beyond. In addition to a solid academic foundation, Harbor graduates are known for being fearless, life-long learners and strong and reflective leaders. Compassionate and tolerant in a global community while demonstrating a solid moral and ethical foundation, Harbor graduates are also culturally experienced and extremely conversant in the humanities and sciences.

Perhaps even more impressive is how graduates feel about Harbor. As shared by the ceremony’s keynote speaker, Winston Lin, MEng. Cornell University, ‘20, B.A. Columbia University ‘17, Harbor Country Day School ‘09, ‘the warmth and love you feel for this place stays with you… and that’s special.”
