Hurricane Dorian: What To Expect On Long Island
Dorian made landfall in North Carolina this morning. See what we can expect on the island as it heads north.

Hurricane Dorian made landfall Friday morning in Cape Hatteras, North Carolina with sustained winds of 90 mph.
"Dorian will move off the northeast coast of North Carolina by midday Friday and then accelerate to the northeast," according to AccuWeather Hurricane Expert Dan Kottlowski.
The storm, which has claimed four lives in the United States —in North Carolina and Florida — and killed at least five people when it passed through the Bahamas, will pass well south and east of Long Island Friday night.

Up to an inch of rain and 25-35 mph wind gusts are possible on the island. The East End could see gusts up to 40 mph. The main concerns from the storm will be along the coast.
Coastal flooding and high surf advisories – waves may reach 12 feet – will be in effect from Friday afternoon until Saturday night.

Minor to locally moderate coastal flood impacts are likely in vulnerable areas during high tide, the National Weather Service says.
Beach flooding, areas dune of erosion and localized washover impacts are also expected along the Atlantic Ocean beachfront Friday into Saturday.
And stay out of the water. There will be very dangerous rip currents through Saturday, posing a danger to anyone who enters the surf.
