Knights to Host Memorial Day Wreath Laying Ceremony

The Fr. Thomas A. Judge Council Knights of Columbus will honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

East Northport - This Memorial Day, Monday May 31st, The Fr. Thomas A. Judge Council Knights of Columbus will honor those who served our country with a Memorial Day wreath-laying ceremony at John J. Walsh Memorial Park adjacent to the East Northport Public Library on Larkfield Road.

According to Richard Fitzgerald, Grand Knight of Fr. Judge K of C, the ceremony will begin promptly at 12:00 noon with the singing of the National anthem by K of C member Mario Ogno Jr. and opening prayer by K of C Chaplain Fr. Ed Sheridan, Pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Church. Then Northport High School student Jonah Gold, winner of the Knights of Columbus “What Memorial Day Means to Me"speech contest, will present his award winning speech to all in attendance.

The speech will be followed by representatives from local service organizations, Boy Scouts & Girl Scouts solemnly laying wreaths in honor of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. A special wreath will be placed by Gold Star Family member Joann Adam in honor of her brother, Chief Warrant Officer John J. Engeman killed in action May 14, 2006 in Iraq.

To conclude the ceremony the honor guard from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9263 will fire a military gun salute followed by the playing of TAPs.
