Knollwood Beach In Centerport Closed To Bathing
High levels of bacteria were found, which can have negative health effects.
CENTERPORT, NY — Knollwood Beach in Centerport is closed to bathing due to the finding of high levels of bacteria, Suffolk County health officials said Wednesday.
Bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat, Suffolk County Commissioner of Health Dr. Gregson Pigott said.
The beaches will reopen when further testing finds that the bacteria have lowered to acceptable levels.
