Mail Carrier Hurt After Van Strikes Postal Truck In Northport

The impact of the crash caused the mail truck to be pushed forward about 100 feet, officials say.

A mail carrier was airlifted to a local hospital after a postal truck was rear-ended in Northport on Wednesday afternoon.

According to fire officials, a United States Postal Service mail carrier was struck by a westbound van on Fort Salonga Road, between Makamah Road and Marcelle Court, at 1:30 p.m.

Northport firefighters responded to the scene and immobilized the mail carrier to prevent a potential neck or back injury. The mail carrier was airlifted by Suffolk Police to Stony Brook University Hospital to be treated for their injuries.
