Kings Park, NY — A former sand mine at 350 Old Northport Road could soon become the largest privately-held mixed sports and medical facility in the tri-state area, according to developers of the project, called Destination KP. The project has been delayed and been the subject of legal disputes since it was first presented in 2014 but appears close to coming to fruition after Suffolk County's Industrial Development Agency (IDA) approved property tax incentives to one of the project's buildings, intended to house sport-specific medical offices, earlier this month.

In addition to the for-profit medical building, run by Prospect Sports Partners LLC, the ten outdoor sports playing fields and one indoor field will be managed by a nonprofit entity, Agape Community Sports Services Inc. Jonathan Keyes, the executive director of the Suffolk County Economic Development Corporation, told Patch that the council and the IDA are finalizing an agreement that will address how much local access will be available, as an incentive to the surrounding community and as part of the nonprofit's mission to provide field access to disadvantaged youth. No exact timeline was given, although Keyes estimated it would be several more months of negotiations before construction could start.

According to the developer's website for the complex, the hub is meant to attract sports tournaments and out of state teams who can take advantage of Kings Park accessibility and nearby amenities:
