NORTHPORT, NY — Baby, a female tortoiseshell cat between 2 and 3, is the Northport Cat Rescue Association's Cat of the Week.

Baby was fending for herself on the streets in Brooklyn, according to Lora Wild, a volunteer with the rescue.

"Much too sweet, she did not fare well as a stray, and thankfully was rescued and taken in to NCRA," Wild told Patch via email. "This affectionate kitty has stolen the hearts of all our volunteers and has been in our habitats for longer than we ever could have imagined. She is playful and loving and has sort of an old soul. Cool, calm and collected, as some big dogs’ noses make their way over to her habitat, she does not even flinch."

Baby loves to be brushed and has a wonderful demeanor, as she is extremely gentle when young children pet her, Wild said.

"She is very in tune with anyone around her and gives everyone that visits exactly what they need," Wild said. "Whether it is a much-needed cuddle or some purring or playing, she is always so happy to see her human friends. She seems lonely in our habitats and looks out the window almost saying, 'hey, no one leaves Baby in the corner,' yet holds no grudges and is so grateful for any attention someone can give her.

"Folklore attributes the 'torties' with bringing their owners luck," Wild said. "Baby is patiently waiting for that special someone to fall in love with her and finally give her a forever home."

Baby is spayed, has all her shots, is micro-chipped, FELV/FIV negative and litter box trained.

If you are interested in meeting Baby, you can head to the Northport Cat Rescue Association website and fill out an application to let them know you would like to meet her or any of the other kittens and cats. You can also call NCRA at 631-606-2631 or email it at info@northportcatrescue.org.
